Accountability for Leaders
The Accountability for Leaders engagement is a one-day workshop, delivered on site or virtually, that helps leaders strengthen their ability to hold others accountable.
Overview
In this workshop, leaders are introduced to the Accountability Sequence, consisting of an Outer Ring, which focuses on the steps to establishing expectations for your team, and the Inner Ring, which provides the steps to manage others when they do not meet the expectations set for them.
During the Workshop
The workshop focuses on the following two key elements that are critical for leaders to both teach and exemplify accountability.
Establishing Expectations (Outer Ring)
The Outer Ring guides leaders on how to establish appropriate expectations. Specifically, the Outer Ring focuses on four key components.
- First, the workshop guides leaders in how to form expectations through a framework that creates clear and achievable expectations.
- Second, leaders learn best practices around how to communicate their expectations to their teams in a way that connects them to their expectations and builds their motivation to hit them.
- Third, leaders learn how to align on these expectations with their teams, gauge their alignment, and what to do if they are not aligned.
- Finally, leaders will learn how to inspect whether the expectations they’ve set out have been met in a way that not only allows for persistent follow-up but also building trust and loyalty with your leaders.
Managing Unmet Expectations (Inner Ring)
The second part of the workshop focuses on the Inner Ring of the Accountability Sequence, which delves into how leaders can manage and support a team member who has not met their expectations.
In these cases, leaders are provided tools and guidance to identify whether the source of the problem was either accountability, culture or training. Depending on the root cause, leaders use different frameworks to help identify specific challenges and beliefs that contribute to the problem, and learn innovative ways to solve those problems to ensure that team members will be able to achieve the results leaders are looking for.
Commit to an Integration Plan – participants will commit to seeking opportunities to use the Outer Ring daily, sharing Above the Line® success stories weekly, and applying LIFT and Experience Dialogue situationally.
